Taiwan rewrites the rules of trade engagement in India with a first-of-its-kind, partially funded FAM tour

- Selected Indian travel professionals contributed alongside TTA, creating a partnership-led approach to destination promotion.
- A seven-day program showcased culture, nature, adventure, MICE, luxury, wellness, lifestyle, and indigenous experiences.
- The initiative aims to equip Indian travel professionals with first-hand destination knowledge and encourage them to develop and promote Taiwan-focused travel products.
New Delhi, India: The Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA) has introduced a co-funded familiarization (FAM) tour model for select Indian travel trade professionals, marking a new approach to destination engagement focused on shared commitment and long-term market development.
Unlike traditional fully hosted FAMs, the initiative combined TTA funding with contributions from participating travel professionals. The model was designed to encourage participation from partners demonstrating genuine interest in developing and promoting Taiwan as a destination for Indian travelers.
The seven-day program brought together professionals from the leisure, MICE, and luxury travel segments, offering first-hand exposure to Taiwan’s diverse tourism experiences. The itinerary covered destinations including Sun Moon Lake, Kaohsiung, Fo Guang Shan Buddha Memorial Center, Jiufen Old Street, Taipei 101, and Longshan Temple.
Participants experienced a mix of culture, heritage, nature, adventure, and lifestyle, including high-speed rail travel, indigenous cultural encounters, whale and dolphin watching, tea tourism, traditional arts, night markets, premium shopping, and hot-spring resort inspections.
Paul Shih, Director – Singapore Office, TTA, said the initiative was designed to move beyond a conventional trade visit and create stronger destination advocates through meaningful first-hand experience.
The co-investment model reflects TTA’s focus on building deeper partnerships with the Indian travel trade and encouraging professionals to develop Taiwan-focused products. By combining destination support with industry participation, the initiative seeks to create sustainable demand and strengthen Taiwan’s positioning across leisure, group, MICE, and luxury travel segments in India.
